HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) - A mother is facing charges after a child abuse investigation in Hinton. On June 5, an officer received a report of a child abuse incident that allegedly occurred on June 2 and 3. The officer launched an investigation that ended in the arrest of Keeley Dylan Harvey, 26, of Hinton.

Authorities discovered Child Protective Services (CPS) had recently visited the child involved. According to the criminal complaint, this prior interaction provided valuable background for the investigation.

The situation took a concerning turn when the child's mother reportedly canceled a scheduled forensic interview at the REACHH Child Advocacy Center (CAC) on June 7. This cancelation raised red flags for investigators, prompting them to act swiftly.
Later that same day, a witness reported disturbing details to the officer. The witness claimed Harvey had left the child in their care with visible bruises. The child allegedly disclosed being bitten by Harvey.

The officer immediately contacted CPS, who conducted another visit and spoke with the child. The child allegedly reiterated that the mother bit her while "drinking," though reportedly claiming it happened while they were playing.

Given the escalating concerns, CPS took emergency action, removing the child from the home and transporting them to REACHH for a supervised forensic interview with the officer present. During the interview, the child reportedly maintained being bitten by their intoxicated mother. Photographic evidence allegedly documented bruises consistent with bite marks.

As a result of the investigation, CPS placed the child in alternative housing.

At the time of writing, Harvey is incarcerated in Southern Regional Jail with bail set at $10,000.
