HINTON, WV (WVNS) — Alcohol is common at most Fourth of July festivities, and your local police want you to use it safely.

There will be a heightened police presence on the roads for Fourth of July as well.

Hinton Chief of Police Nathan Allen said that if you will be drinking this holiday to please follow his advice.

“We certainly ask that you don’t drive impaired. If you do drink, find somewhere to stay or let somebody else drive. There’s gonna be a lot of traveling around the Fourth of July holiday, lot of cookouts like I said, people’ll be riding ATVs, stuff like that. Don’t ride those if you’re impaired,” said Chief Allen.

Chief Allen said a first offense for a DUI comes with at least one night in jail.

More jail time, temporary or permanent loss of driver’s license, and a hefty fine could also be consequences of driving impaired.

Not to mention the risk you take with potentially ending your own life, or someone else’s.
