Frantic search overnight after false claim from alleged DUI driver who crashed into Galveston harbor, off Pier 21
GALVESTON, Texas — A vehicle plunged into the Galveston harbor early Sunday morning, submerging in approximately 30 feet of water at Pier 21. The Galveston Police Department reported that the incident occurred on July 21, 2024, and involved a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Caleb Joseph Hayes of Dickinson. Hayes managed to escape the submerged vehicle and was transported to UTMB Health Galveston by EMS. He has since been medically cleared and charged with driving while intoxicated.
