Residents raise concerns over tree removal in Noblesville
The Noblesville Common Council heard from several residents during its June 25 meeting about tree removal that has taken place in the Oakmont neighborhood in Noblesville. Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen has previously stated the removal of more than 100 trees is to improve sidewalks in the area. At the meeting, he said the conversations surrounding the tree removal have been difficult, and the city has tried to listen to residents.
A look back at our Civil War past
There were roughly 2,400 Hamilton County men who joined the army as volunteers during the Civil War. Of those, 277 died and are buried in other states. Many veterans came home to Hamilton County and others moved here after the war. There are 1,136 Civil War veterans buried in Hamilton County. Some had been wounded in action and lived out their lives with physical maladies. However, the wounds were not all from the battlefield.

Fourth of July festivities set for Noblesville
Fireworks, a parade, live music and other festivities will once again be part of the Noblesville Fireworks Festival, a free July 4 event. The Noblesville Fourth of July parade, festival and fireworks display is the longest continuously running celebration in central Indiana and has been an annual tradition in Noblesville since 1997, according to Robert Herrington, press secretary for the City of Noblesville.
A place of hope: Second Safe Haven Baby Box installed in Westfield
First passed in 2000, the Indiana Safe Haven Law allows a person to surrender their infant anonymously without fear of arrest or prosecution. In 2017, Indiana expanded the Safe Haven Law to allow for baby boxes at hospitals, and in 2018 those locations were expanded to include fire stations with available 24/7 emergency medical services.
County swimmers get many victories at Enchanted Forest
Noblesville Swim Club began an annual summer tradition last Friday as the Enchanted Forest Swim Meet started at the Forest Park Aquatic Center. The first day of competition featured some of the long-distance events, with Hamilton County swimmers getting victories. Southeastern Swim Club’s Kinsey Bogaards won the Girls 13-14 400 individual medley, while Audrey Crawford claimed first place in the Girls Open 400 IM.
