Huntsville pediatrician in practice for nearly 30 years passes away
A pediatrician who practiced for nearly 30 years in Huntsville has passed away. Dr. Charles R. Horton, Jr., cared for thousands of local children during the 27 years he worked as managing partner of Twickenham Pediatrics. Horton was also a clinical instructor and assistant professor at the University of Alabama Medical School Huntsville campus. He also served as the president of the Madison County Medical Society.

Russellville adult softball summer series ends
The Russellville Park and Recreation adult softball program gathered for its last game July 27 at the John Blackwell Sports Complex across from Sloss Lake. The park welcomed its usual Tuesday players along with an additional team this week. Games continued until after dark. Even after scheduled play was over, two of the teams stayed to play one last game for fun. The program has continued to grow in popularity over its course, welcoming two teams the first two Tuesdays, three the third week and four to conclude this month’s season. One Tuesday in the month was canceled because of rain.
