Four juveniles charged in connection with Roanoke shooting
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - A juvenile faces several charges connected to a shooting Wednesday in Roanoke. The minor is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felon, one count of stolen property, and possession of a firearm by a minor.

New program in Roanoke engages those involved in serious crimes
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - A new approach to lower gun violence in Roanoke was discussed in Tuesday’s Gun Violence Prevention Commission meeting. To help reduce violent crimes, Roanoke’s Gun Violence Commission introduced the Gun Violence Intervention Program, or GVI. This program focuses on direct engagement with group members involved in incidents of serious violence.
Salem Sheriff Staton announces resignation
SALEM, Va. (WDBJ) - Salem Sheriff April Staton has announced her resignation from the Salem office, effective August 31, 2024, after serving with the office since 2003. “I came to the Sheriff’s Office without any knowledge of law enforcement, but once on the job, I fell in love with the opportunities we have to affect someone’s life in a positive way,” Staton said. “I am very proud I was able to earn the respect of our citizens and build on the traditions of the Salem Sheriff’s Office.”
Firefighter being treated for heat exhaustion following fire in Roanoke: Officials
ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) — The Roanoke FireEMS Department said one firefighter is being treated for heat exhaustion following a fire on Monday. At 7:49 p.m., crews were dispatched by the E-911 Center for an odor in the 2000 block of Lynn Avenue SW, officials said. Upon arrival, Engine 8 reported smoke showing from an apartment and upgraded to a working fire.
