The news publication reports that the 55-year-old singer confirmed to them in an exclusive statement. It began, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
She continued, “It read, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.” The singer continued to thank her fans and everyone sending their condolences, stating, “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
The news site reported that there are no other details, notably including Patricia and Alison’s causes of death, are known at this time.

Prior to her death, Mariah’s mother Patricia Carey did not have a smooth relationship with her legendary daughter. The two had a pretty complicated relationship. In her 2020 memoir ‘ The Meaning of Mariah Carey ,’ the singer described her relationship with her mother as a “prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment.”
She also said, “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It’s never been only black-and-white — it’s been a whole rainbow of emotions.” She added, “A complicated love tethers my heart to my mother’s.”
Despite their rocky relationship, Mariah Carey and her mother maintained their bond and she even dedicated part of her memoir to Patricia. She acknowledged that her mother did the best job she could raising her and that she would always love her.

Her mother was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey , a Juilliard-trained opera singer and vocal coach. The two welcomed three children together: Alison, Mariah, and a son named Morgan Carey . The couple divorced when Mariah was 3 years old.
Sadly, just as Mariah Carey didn’t have a strong relationship with her mother Patricia Carey, her bond with her sister Alison Carey wasn’t as tight either. The two sisters have been estranged for a while and Alison even once sued Mariah over claims of abuse noted in her memoir. In it, she also said that at the time of writing, it was “emotionally and physically safer for me not to have any contact” with her or Morgan.
