#Socialites, get a load of this! Red Lobster , which officially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2024, is now set to close 23 more locations across the nation.

According to CNN , Red Lobster is shutting down about two dozen more locations after previously filing for bankruptcy and shuttering multiple locations earlier this year. As we previously reported, on May 19, Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after closing dozens of locations and announcing its plans to “drive operational improvements” by simplifying the business.

However, court documents later filed in federal court revealed that the bankruptcy filing was primarily due to significant debt. They cited that a high turnover of CEOs coupled with a 30% decline in demand since 2019, plus their famed all-you-can-eat shrimp deals, to wrangle people back in, were all to blame.

Now, CNN reports that a 23-page court document, filed on August 22 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, shows that as of this Saturday (August 31), the Orlando-based restaurant company will not be renewing the leases of 23 locations.

The 23 locations will join more than 100 restaurants that Red Lobster shuttered earlier this Summer; at least 129 locations across the U.S. will have been closed since filing for bankruptcy. Once the additional 23 locations are closed down, Red Lobster will have about 500 restaurants left, which is a huge drop from the 650 they had open last year.

CNN further reports that amid its ongoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, Red Lobster is also in the process of selling itself off to Fortress Credit Corp., a lender that specializes in restaurant management. The new owners also own restaurant chains like Krystal, Logan’s Roadhouse, and J. Alexander’s. It’s reported that Fortress Credit Corp. recently gave Red Lobster a $100 million loan in order to keep afloat.

In the most recent wave of closings, three restaurants in Florida, Illinois, and Virginia will be shuttering; along with two in Minnesota and New York; and one in each of the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, and South Carolina.
