HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Chicopee is facing a murder charge in Holyoke adding to an already growing list of outstanding offenses.

Suspect arrested in deadly Holyoke shooting on West Street

Luis Rodriguez pleaded not guilty to his murder charge and will be held without the right to bail. He was arrested on July 10th for motor vehicle-related violations. His bail was set at $1,000 and then revoked for two other narcotics cases for which he is awaiting trial.

He’s been held at the Hampden County House of Corrections since that day on those charges.
Last Friday, the District Attorney’s Office announced Rodriguez was being charged with the murder of 38-year-old Dexter Ortiz in the 50 block area of West Street on July 9th.

That night just before 11:30 officers were called to West Street for a shotspotter activation and found Ortiz and two other victims suffering from gunshot wounds. All three were taken to Baystate Medical Center. Ortiz died of his injuries, the other two victims are expected to recover.

Rodriguez is expected back in court on August 16th to continue this matter.
