Comfort is of the utmost importance in the bedroom, but it can be difficult to achieve. A neutral color palette can feel pared-back and plain, while bright, bold colors often scare the coziness away. But in Studio McGee's latest reveal, a mountainside retreat nestled in Park City, Utah, founder Shea McGee found the perfect solution: a textured wallcovering.

By adding a deep charcoal grasscloth wallpaper to this primary suite's walls, Shea brought the space to a whole new level. Adding depth and visual interest to every square inch of the space, the wallpaper injects life into the room, meshing with the outdoor views without overtaking them. Luckily, Shea recently shared a bit more about the space in a YouTube video touring the whole home – this is what she had to say about the oh-so-cozy bedroom idea .

'I love this primary suite because I think it's a great example of how to take modern design and make it feel classic at the same time,' says Shea. 'We did a dark, charcoal grasscloth on all of the walls. Dark grasscloth is a timeless material – it adds texture and color, and it really just sets a cozy feel for this space.'

The charcoal shade of the wallcovering melds beautifully with the natural wood ceiling beams and canopy bedframe, as well as the light and soothing area rug covering the floor. The entire look is nature-inspired , taking cues from the great outdoors in both color and texture. Aside from the texture blend and color scheme, Shea's task was to bring a bit of eclectic style into this mountainside home – to say she delivered is an understatement.

'The beams are the same texture and tone that we used throughout the rest of the home on the ceilings, so that provides some continuity,' she says. 'And then each selection is interesting – there is not a single piece within this space that isn't a little bit funky or just kind of catches your eye.'

'By incorporating some of the finishes like a really simplistic fireplace surround, a really calming vintage rug, those give us some nice, grounding elements to balance out some of the bold choices we made in the rest of the styling,' she continues.

Each detail is chosen carefully and creatively, down to the artwork hanging above the bed. A fully custom pair of pieces, the art brings in bold color and textured details, too. 'This pair of patterned artwork is one of my very favorite features in the room. We did a custom fabric mat, and the colors in that fabric tie in with the grasscloth, and they act as almost a secondary pillow of sorts,' says Shea.

She adds that 'interesting color combinations and pattern combinations' brought 'that playfulness that [their] client was looking for.' Down to a single line of red stitching in the bed's quilt to tie the whole scheme together, this room is personalized and built to inspire.

'We thought through every single layer,' says Shea. 'Even the lamp over here – it is a fabric lamp and shade, and it looks like it ties in perfectly with the grasscloth. I'm loving this look these days where you take a color or a texture or a pattern and you repeat it throughout a space for maximum effect.'
