Lady Gaga uses this simple painting technique for a twist on her Mediterranean-style patio – it brings any exterior alive

With its rustic beige colorway, Tuscan-style pillars, and wooden trellis, Lady Gaga's patio is the quintessential Mediterranean-inspired setting, with one exception.

The singer introduced a contemporary twist to her otherwise neutral space via bold yellow-painted plant pots (filled with bougainvillea), all of which are scattered around the exterior space.

Though these pots are only accessories, their presence goes a long way. They allow her to maintain a traditional aesthetic around the majority of the patio while adding just the right amount of fun (because this is Lady Gaga's patio, after all). It's a painting technique that hasn't gone unnoticed by Tash Bradley, the director of interior design at Lick, who says the colors we use in exterior spaces are just as important as those inside the home – and decorating with yellow is the perfect starting point.

'It’s really important that we focus on the exteriors of our homes just as much as the interiors. It’s the first place that welcomes you home every day, and it sets the tone for inside,' Bradley says. Among the top colors she recommends is a Gaga-inspired yellow and an equally bold hue: pink . '

'They will add a bit of joy and playfulness to your garden. Even if you just paint your plant pots yellow, it will make a big difference and make you smile every time you go into your garden.'

Alongside her yellow pots, Gaga has added subtler hints of color with blue-striped chair covers and a terracotta-hued table – a choice that emphasizes the home's Mediterranean-style aesthetic.

'One garden trick I’m seeing a lot, which I love to recommend, is the addition of a deep rusty Mediterranean terracotta,' Bradley says. ' Lick’s Red 03 looks awesome against green plants or furniture and is the perfect color for those wanting to create a Mediterranean al-fresco dining vibe at home. Your tablescapes and big salad bowls will pop with this color thrown in the mix.'

These picks below can help us tap into the Gaga-influenced look. Of course, terracotta is the best way to bring a sense of the Mediterranean to our yard, but the look wouldn't be complete without these yellow pots, available from Amazon below.

    Rossini Rattan Dining Side Chair

The Rossini Side Chair by Sika Design is an intricately woven rattan design that continues to be a favorite in private homes and cafes, and now, our patio.

Lady Gaga doesn't play with too much green on her patio, but for other vibrant exterior ideas, Bradley also recommends incorporating this hue.

'Green would look amazing on an exterior statement wall, or you could use it to upcycle a piece of furniture, with either colour adding a soft, fresh, spring-like feel,' she says. ' Green 02 is a much deeper sage green that will reflect the richer tones in the garden and look incredible against plants.'
