A 16-year-old in Florida has been arrested for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend’s mother, fatally shooting the 38-year-old woman as an act of revenge because he was angry about being dumped.

Eli Zachary Shinhoster was taken into custody on Monday and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of being a minor in possession of a firearm in the slaying of Eulalia Gonzalez Martin De Osorio.

According to a release from Crime Stoppers Miami & Florida Keys, Gonzalez on Thursday, June 27, at about 7:40 p.m. was fatally shot while standing on the front porch of her home in the area of N.W. 11th Street and N.W. 6th Avenue in Homestead, Florida.

A copy of the probable cause affidavit obtained by Miami Fox affiliate WSVN provided additional details on the unprovoked attack.

The report states that officers with the Homestead Police Department and emergency medical personnel with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to Gonzalez’s home in the 600 block of 11th Street in regard to reports of a female being shot in the head. Upon arriving at the scene, first responders reportedly located Gonzalez in front of her home suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head, specifically, her eye.

Police found an unresponsive Gonzalez lying atop her 1-month-old daughter, who was unharmed. She had reportedly been holding the newborn in her arms when she was shot.

Gonzalez was reportedly in critical condition and was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving at the facility.

In an interview with police, Gonzalez’s neighbor said that she heard Shinhoster say, “I’ll fire,” before pulling the trigger, Miami ABC affiliate WPLG reported .

Gonzalez’s elder daughter had reportedly dated Shinhoster for about nine months, but had broken up with him about two months prior to Gonzalez’s death.

Investigators obtained surveillance footage which reportedly showed Shinhoster approach Gonzalez’s home, pull out a handgun, fire, and then flee on foot. He was also identified as the shooter by multiple witnesses, WSVN reported.

Shinhoster was located Monday morning at his home in southwest Miami-Dade and detained by officers with the Miami-Dade Police Department. In an interview with police, the suspect allegedly confessed to killing Gonzalez.

Police reportedly wrote that Shinhoster said he had a handgun in his waistband when he took a rideshare to the area near Gonzalez’s home “in order to carry out his plan of killing one of his ex-girlfriend’s family members in order to hurt her because she ended the relationship.” He had previously told Gonzalez’s daughter that “if she was not with him, she could not be with anyone else,” WPLG reported.

After admitting to shooting Gonzalez while she was holding her infant, Shinhoster reportedly said that he ran away from the scene, placed the handgun back in his waistband, and ordered another rideshare back to his own home.

Following the interview and a search of his home, Shinhoster was placed into the custody of the Juvenile Services Department
