HOPE, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help after a male bicyclist was found dead alongside a rural county road in mid-July.

The sheriff’s department said the bicyclist left the roadway near the intersection of N 475 E and E 550 N on July 14. This rural intersection is located between Columbus and Hope.

The bicyclist was reportedly wearing a green fluorescent shirt and may have been in the Clifford/Hope area between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 14.

The intersection where the bicyclist was found is flanked by farm fields with a ditch — labeled as Chicken Creek — running alongside the roadway.

The sheriff’s department did not provide specifics on the cause of the bicyclist’s death.

“The investigation is ongoing,” the department said. “The Sheriff’s Office is seeking relevant information as to why the bicyclist left the roadway resulting in the accident.”
