INVESTIGATION: RI Nursing Home Rankings Fail to Disclose Crimes and Serious Violations
The process is a nightmare for a family trying to investigate the quality of nursing homes in Rhode Island. Popular rankings can be incomplete at best and misleading at worst. U.S. News and World Report ranks nursing homes across the country. According to U.S. News, Cedar Crest Nursing Centre in Cranston is one of six top facilities in Rhode Island.
Rhode Island reports first positive finding of West Nile Virus in mosquito sample
(WJAR) — Rhode Island reported the first finding of the West Nile Virus in a mosquito sample this year on Friday. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Rhode Island Department of Health announced that WNV was found in a mosquito sample collected in Pawtucket on July 15.
DEM makes it official, plans shellfishing closure off Prudence Island due to Aquapalooza
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management announced Wednesday that due to the increased risk of accidental or illicit discharges of sewage from hundreds of boats gathering off Prudence Island that is expected this weekend, DEM is once again preemptively closing 700 acres of shellfish grounds on the north end of the island. The precautionary closure is from sunrise on July 27 until sunrise on August 3 and extends from the shoreline and all waters south and west of a line from Providence Point to the northwest extension of Warner Avenue on Prudence Island. ...

Taste of Rhode Island Hosts Summer Series Event
Taste of Rhode Island, a celebration of Rhode Island’s great food, local spirits and live entertainment, returned to the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick with its Summer Series on June 5. The event, produced by Pat Paolino Cruz, Pat Cruz Events, and Lupe Aguilar, Rhody Foody, showcased more than 50 of the state’s best restaurants, bakeries and caterers alongside local and regional wineries, distilleries and breweries. Guests were treated to live music, cooking demonstrations, a red carpet, and photo booth opportunities and a chance to vote for their favorite tastes along with celebrity guest judges. VIP ticket holders received early admission, swag bags with treats and access to a separate VIP lounge area. Taste of Rhode Island corporate sponsors included The Perry Group and Luke Renchan Entertainment. The event supports Rhode Island-based nonprofit MAE Organization for the Homeless.
