A Horizon City man was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his father on the Fourth of July in the Red Sands area, authorities said.

Jair Navarro, 21, was arrested Friday, July 12, on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of 39-year-old Arturo Navarro, El Paso County Sheriff's Office officials said.

Texas Rescue Patrol and El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies responded about 11:50 p.m. July 4 to a report of a fight with gunshots fired in the 15600 block of Montana Avenue in the Red Sands area in far East El Paso, officials said.

Red Sands is where thousands of people gather on the Fourth of July to party and shoot off fireworks.

Deputies found Arturo Navarro with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He died July 7.

El Paso County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit investigators found that Jair Navarro had allegedly shot his father Arturo Navarro. Authorities provided no information on what caused the fight between the father and son.

Jair Navarro was arrested July 12 by the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in the 11600 block of Datsun Drive in Socorro, officials said. He was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $750,000 bond, jail records show. He remains jailed as of Saturday, July 13, jail logs show.
