HORNELL, NY — Early offensive struggles combined with untimely fielding errors caused the Oilers to fall short to the Steamers, 6-3, Tuesday.

The loss means that there will be a new champion of the Western Division playoffs of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. The Oilers had won the previous two titles.

The Steamers jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with their first three batters all scoring.

Adam Martin, the Oilers starting pitcher settled in after the first inning, only allowing one hit over the next four innings. The Steamers managed two more runs in the sixth inning, in large part due to errors by shortstop Joshua Wilson and first baseman Chase Fischer.

Down 5-0 entering the eighth inning, the Oilers started a rally by scoring three runs on third baseman Bryce Rudisills' home run. The Oilers managed to get two base runners in the ninth inning before right fielder Michael Norton grounded out for the final out of the season.
