Route 14 crash limits traffic in Horseheads, one injured

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. ( WETM ) – Traffic has been reduced to one lane on Route 14 in Horseheads after a one-car crash that happened early this morning.

The crash occurred around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, just north of Wygant Road near the Dandy. According to an 18 News reporter on the scene, it seems the car was going south before it went off the road and into a ditch, striking an electrical pole and a utility pole, both of which will need to be replaced.

NYDOT and members of the NYSEG crew are at the scene directing traffic, while other members of the NYSEG crew are helping to get the car on the tow truck without the poles falling over. Deputies from the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office are also at the scene.

According to a Chemung County Investigator at the scene, the crash involved one person who was taken to Corning and then airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital due to the severity of their injuries. The cause of the crash, as well as the state of the person’s condition, is unknown at this time. 18 News will update the story if more information becomes available.
