The Houston Rural Fire Association has begun collecting annual dues. This year residents have a new way to pay – online.

Annual dues can be mailed to 115 W. Walnut St. in Houston or dropped off in a secure box at that location.

    Dues include:

    • Individual membership for land, with up to one residence; $95.
    • Individual membership for land, with up to two residences; $150.
    • Each additional residence is $50.
    • Business membership; $175.
    • Nonprofit membership; $100.
    • Rescue Squad, covers other emergencies; $50.

The fire district covers 237 square miles and does not receive any county tax income. There are currently 16 volunteer members, a volunteer board of directors and a paid secretary. 15 of the volunteers are trained to respond to medical emergencies. Six are level two certified firefighters and nine are entry-level.

The volunteers train with and assist other departments as part of their mutual aid agreement. They also participate in public service and the County Fire Chief’s Association.

Look for mailers next week. To pay online, go to https://tinyurl.com/yeee43fe. For more information call 417-217-1747 or email secretaryhrfa@gmail.com
