Thunderstorms with heavy rain early Sunday hit the Houston area and closed one bridge just north of the city limits.

The Mineral Springs Bridge at the end of Grand Avenue is closed. Brushy Creek was rumbling through the area Sunday morning. Authorities said debris prevented the flow of water at the bridge. Motorists are required to take a detour on Oak Hill Drive to Forest Drive.

Debris rapidly passes through the Dog’s Bluff access point on the Big Piney River following thunderstorms that struck the area early Sunday morning.

At Dog’s Bluff, swimmers filled the area on Saturday, but early Sunday it was underwater.

The rain — about 3 inches in the Houston area — sent streams out of their banks. (Others reported more). A flood warning is in effect until 2:30 p.m. for southern Texas County, where the National Weather Service said 2-4 inches fell.

One tree was downed on Airport Road near Hawthorn Avenue.
