Right-handed pitchers Cristian Javier and José Urquidy are each scheduled to undergo right elbow surgery, Astros general manager Dana Brown announced Wednesday.

Urquidy, who has been on the injured list since the start of the season, is scheduled to have surgery Wednesday, while Javier, who has been on the injured list since May 24, is scheduled to have surgery Thursday.

Both pitchers will be out for the remainder of the 2024 season.

While on the IL, Urquidy made one rehab start for Double A Corpus Christi and then two rehab starts for Triple A Sugar Land. In his most recent start, on May 24 for Sugar Land, Urquidy left the game with two outs in the fourth inning after experiencing discomfort in his right forearm area.

Javier was 3-1 with a 3.89 ERA in seven starts for the Astros this season before being placed on the IL (May 24) with discomfort in his right forearm area.

Since making his debut in 2020, Javier is 33-18 with a 3.59 ERA in 116 career appearances (82 starts). Since debuting in 2019, Urquidy is 27-16 with a 3.98 ERA in 79 career appearances (70 starts).
