The Houston Astros survived a seven-run eighth inning rally to beat the Baltimore Orioles in their series opener Friday night at Minute Maid Park.

Houston appeared to have the win secured after scoring nine runs in the sixth inning. But things got shaky late. Fortunately for the Astros, nothing was broken.

They beat the Orioles 14-11 in a game that featured 32 total hits.

Astros rookie Jake Bloss, making his major-league debut, last 3 2/3 innings before being pulled from the game with right shoulder discomfort. He was later placed on the 15-day injured list, which leaves Houston with just four healthy starters on its 40-man roster.

Tayler Scott was able to get the Astros out of the eighth inning and Bryan Abreu, who had pitched the previous two days, closed it out for Houston.
