Recent update on high-ceiling stud leaves the Houston Texans beyond happy entering 2024

The Houston Texans just traded for Stefon Diggs this offseason , making them a real Super Bowl contender . But, that also saw there be a log jam in the wide receiver room. The Texans needed another guy in the room, but before the trade, no one expected the team to make an addition of a guy that's considered one of the best in the league like Diggs is.

Everyone thought the Texans would add another veteran, an established guy, or even a rookie in the draft, especially since they had Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Noah Brown, and John Metchie. That's a loaded room with a lot of upside. Then you add Diggs and it changes everything.

The thing is - Metchie hadn't quite turned into what the Texans thought he would yet. He played this last year but did not play his rookie year due to being diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. He has since made a recovery and played last season, but, he was not quite what everyone thought he would be, and that's okay.

However, towards the end of the year, he started to get hot and even made some huge key plays in the playoffs. Now, this offseason during OTAs and mandatory minicamp, we have gotten a great update on Metchie and his development.

According to ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime, Metchie is getting more and more explosive and seems to have the same explosiveness he had before his situation.

This is a kid with an insane upside and a very high ceiling. He was one of the best wide receivers at Alabama, who had a plethora of weapons. If you're the Texans, you love to hear this, especially with 2025 on your mind. If this experiment doesn't go well with Diggs, which I think it will as the chemistry is already there, then their backup plan could already be on the roster.
