Stefon Diggs Trade Was ‘Addition by Subtraction’ for Bills, Says Rival Scout

Stefon Diggs had more than 100 receptions and 1,100 receiving yards in each of his four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, but one anonymous NFL scout believes that Diggs getting traded to the Houston Texans this offseason will be “addition by subtraction” for Josh Allen and the Bills offense.

Those comments were made as part of the exclusive Bills scouting report in the Athlon Sports 2024 NFL Preview magazine , available on newsstands now.

“Addition by subtraction with Stefon Diggs trade, as far as I’m concerned,” the scout said.  “The guy is and always will be a diva. He’s selfish. He’s lost a half-step, and Josh froze him out in the second half of the season.”

Diggs caught 107 passes last season for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns. In his four seasons since being traded to Buffalo from the Minnesota Vikings, those numbers are his second-lowest receptions total, lowest yardage total and tied for lowest touchdown total. On April 3, the Bills traded Diggs, along with a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick, to Houston in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick.

“I think their offense is good enough without Diggs,” the scout said. “They run the football very well with James Cook. Especially behind Dion Dawkins. He’s a tone-setter.”

As for the passing game, the scout thinks there are enough weapons to support Allen’s ad-libbing and offensive coordinator Joe Brady’s play-calling. “They’re going to get the job done on offense with those good tight ends, Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox. ... Khalil Shakir is poised to make a big jump this season.”

Shakir, entering his third NFL season, caught 39 passes for 611 yards and two touchdowns last season.

The scout is also high on rookie receiver Keon Coleman, the 6-4, 215-pound Florida State product that Buffalo drafted in the second round.

“Love them picking Keon Coleman,” the scout said. “It’s a game-changer to have that big target to lob the football to. This kid has an infectious personality. Allen is going to have a lot of fun throwing to him.”

Diggs, meanwhile, joins another playoff contender with the Texans and could be a dangerous target for reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J., Stroud. If, however, Diggs flashes any diva tendencies, it will be interesting to see how he handles competing for targets with established Houston receivers Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
