Former Texas A&M lineman named biggest potential bust for Texans in 2024

The Houston Texans are probably going to be one of the best teams in the NFL this year. We say probably because absolutely nothing is guaranteed at this level and the Texans do have one potentially game-breaking flaw on their roster. That would be their offensive line unit, which was recently ranked near the bottom of the league by ESPN analyst Mike Clay's projections for the 2024 season.

Aside from left tackle Laremy Tunsil and right guard Shaq Mason, there are exactly zero proven commodities on the rest of the depth chart. Juice Scruggs will be starting at center and has no experience playing that spot as a pro. Tytus Howard is back at right tackle and had the worst pass blocking grade of any OL for Houston last year. The worst of them may end up being left guard Kenyon Green, who missed the entire 2023 season due to a shoulder injury. The year before he posted a putrid 27.0 pass blocking grade as a rookie.

Needless to say, the outlook for Green isn't great. Bleacher Report analyst David Kenyon has named him the team's biggest potential bust going into the 2024 season.

"Following a disappointing rookie year, Kenyon Green missed the 2023 season because of a shoulder injury. As with Bateman in Baltimore, the Texans' hope is watching a recent first-round selection play up to that ability, and it should help to have CJ Stroud distributing the ball quicker than Davis Mills in 2022. Green surrendered so much pressure as a rookie, however, that the optimism feels lofty."

Then again it's worth repeating that there are no sure things in the NFL, and it's possible that Green will take a big step forward in his development this year. The third season in the league is often the one when it finally clicks for young players and the game starts to slow down. Whether that happens for Green or not remains to be seen, but nobody should write him off before a single snap is played.

If Green does wind up being a liability, the Texans have a couple of new options to replace him. Yesterday the team signed former Colts left guard Chris Reed and they also worked out free agent Cameron Erving.
