On July 17, 2024, Texas County deputies received a report of stolen farm equipment on Brushy Creek Road in the Houston area. The victim also reported that he found a Facebook marketplace ad showing other equipment for sale that was still in his possession, Sheriff Scott Lindsey said.

Deputies arranged a controlled meeting with the suspect by posing as a potential buyer of the equipment. The suspect, using a fake profile name, agreed to meet with the “buyer” at a location in Houston.

Shaun C. Cross, 32, of Houston, arrived at the meeting location and was arrested. After being arrested, Cross was found to be in possession of a large amount of cash and a handwritten bill of sale with the fake Facebook profile name on it.

After further investigation and suspect interviews, deputies were able to locate the other stolen equipment that had been sold on the marketplace.

Prosecuting Attorney Parke Stevens charged Cross with two counts of receiving stolen property and one count of attempting to receive stolen property. Cross is being held in the Texas County Jail pending a $10,000 cash only bond. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected, Lindsey said.

The above charges are mere accusations and are not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
