The Houston Texans have big aspirations in 2024. After winning the AFC South last season, the team is expected to contend for a Super Bowl in 2024. Ahead of training camp, which started this week, the team had announced it had signed former Detroit Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus. The details of the contract, including the length and money, were not revealed.

The former fifth-round pick out of Wisconsin University was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 2020 NFL Draft. In his final collegiate season, he led the Badgers in both receiving yards and touchdowns. During his rookie season, Cephus had 20 receptions for 349 yards and two touchdowns. He showed flashes of being a future starter for the 5-11 Lions.

Cephus suffered an injury-plagued sophomore season in 2021, where he only played five games and was on pace for nearly 700 yards and seven touchdowns. He only played in four games in 2022 after missing the majority of the season due to injury.

Cephus Was Suspended By NFL For Gambling In 2023

Ahead of the 2023 season, Cephus was suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games. This violation of the league’s gambling policy led to his release from the Lions organization. Within a month of his reinstatement, he was signed and released by the Buffalo Bills.

If he plays a down for Houston, it will be the first time he touches the NFL field since the 2022 NFL season and will be one of his last opportunities to prove himself in the league. Do you think that this is a good signing by the Texans?
