Houston Texans QB C.J. Stroud knows that there is still so much more of his game he can unlock

The Houston Texans are in one of the more unique situations in the league. They have a top-five quarterback in the league in C.J. Stroud, who also happens to be in the second year of his rookie contract. That means the Texans can load up talent around him and pay other players until it's time to pay Stroud.

The quarterback position is the most important position in the entire league, and maybe in all of sports. They are also the highest-paid position in the NFL, usually. When you look up the highest-paid players on an annual basis, the top five are all quarterbacks. So, the advantage the Texans have this year and the next two years, possibly, is huge.

Last season he started slow. He was a rookie still getting the hang of things, and when it came time to show up, he did. It took a few weeks, and then everyone realized that the kid was special, which is why he had one of the greatest rookie seasons ever, if not the greatest.

He's already a top-five quarterback in the league with a playoff win under his belt after year one. Not even Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs did that during his rookie year. But, he still has a lot to learn, and he knows that.

“Yeah, I mean, there is a ton of things," Stroud said at training camp. "Most of the things, you know, I really can say just like owning the offense more, the operation, putting more on my plate with run checks, protection checks, things like that. And then really just like everything inside the field. Xs and Os can always be better. You can always have better footwork.

"I want to definitely attack down the field more this year and press guys back and also take what the defense gives me. If it's boring, if it's a boring play, just stay with the boring stuff and just be efficient with that. So, those are all things I can get better at and I hope to do that.”

With the weapons the Texans have placed around Stroud, he can become a top-three quarterback in the league in 2024, and even battle for the MVP award, which is just insane to think about if you're a Houston Texans fan. Stroud is special, and you can tell he wants to be great.

The things he is doing in the offseason off the field show that, too. I mean, he's meeting with his receivers what feels like every weekend of the offseason to get throwing sessions in. He is determined to be the best.
