NFL analyst names Texans WR as potential trade candidate in 2024

Perhaps no team around the NFL has a better wide receiver room right now than these Houston Texans. That's a massive turnaround from a year and a half ago when they didn't appear to have any rising talents or established stars at this position. Since then they've seen Tank Dell emerge with a strong rookie season, Nico Collins come out of nowhere to become a potential superstar and they've also traded for All-Pro Stefon Diggs .

The arrival of Diggs should bump everyone else on the depth chart down a spot, including veteran Robert Woods, who posted 40 catches, 426 yards and one touchdown last year. Looking ahead, it's difficult to see Woods getting much of a meaningful role in Houston's offense unless either Collins or Diggs goes down for the year.

That means we may see Woods end up on the trade block around midseason. He has been named a potential trade candidate by Cory Woodroof at For the Win :

"The Houston Texans have a very deep wide receiver room, and Woods might be the odd man out with more youthful depth pushing for playing time. He’d be the perfect fit for a contending team that needs a veteran option on the outside, as he’s got the experience needed to boost any passing game. He might not be the player he was in his prime, but he’s still good. The Texans could save more than $6 million in a trade and open up a spot on the depth chart for its younger players."

This is sound logic as far as Woods being trade-bait. However, it's also difficult to see any team around the league giving up much for him at this late stage of his career.

The Arizona Cardinals are probably the Texans' best bet to get a good return in a trade - as they need receiver help and have been known to take any castoff for any price if they're in the right mood. Even still, getting a conditional sixth-round pick for Woods would be a bonanza.
