Houston Restaurant Weeks —which is more like Houston Restaurant Month—runs from August 1st through September 2nd. Participating restaurants offer breakfast , brunch , lunch , dinner, or some combination of the four at $25-$55 per person. We’ve dropped our favorite picks to help you maximize the delicious food you can eat over the next 35 days, all to benefit the Houston Food Bank .
THE SPOTS
9.0
Hugo's
The Deal: Three-course dinner for $55 per person
Why We Like It: Every Houstonian has a Hugo’s story, and HRW is the best time to create your own at the Montrose Mexican restaurant. For $55, you can eat tuna ceviche with fresh papaya, grilled strip steak, and a slice of vegan chocolate cake. And might as well use some of the money you saved on the meal by throwing in a Hugo’s margarita , too.
9.1
Late August
The Deal: Two-course lunch for $25 per person, three-course dinner for $55 per person
Why We Like It: Late August is a newcomer to Houston’s food scene, but the Southern dishes here hold their own against seasoned restaurants participating. With the lunch deal costing the same as a typical entree, we suggest coming during the day, especially if that means trying the smashburger . For dinner, order a cup of loaded, spicy gumbo , a rack of ribs, and their creme brulee rice pudding, which is the dessert combo we didn’t know we needed.
9.3
Pappas Bros. Steakhouse
The Deal: Three-course dinner for $55 per person
Why We Like It: This steakhouse will you make you feel a little fancy , especially when the servers bust out those stainless steel table crumbers. And the cost of this Restaurant Weeks meal alone is what you would normally pay for a steak here. Order a caesar or house salad, a dry-aged 10 oz New York strip, and take down a slice of cheesecake with the satisfaction of knowing you are at one of the best restaurants in town for the cost of a tank of gas.
8.5
Étoile Cuisine Et Bar
The Deal: Two-course lunch for $25 per person, a three-course brunch for $25 per person, and a three-course dinner for $55 per person
Why We Like It: As the highest-rated French restaurant on this site, Etoile is a must-visit for beef tartare, butter-drenched sole, and nectarine and bourbon cake. For Restaurant Week, they’re offering tasting menus for every service, including a three-course brunch with escargot, eggs benedict with smoked salmon, and dessert. You should go to all three because this is a serious deal.
8.6
Coltivare
The Deal: Three-course dinner for $39 per person
Why We Like It: We find any excuse to go to this Heights restaurant with a patio and garden that small mythical creatures would be pleased to call home. The Italian spot is serving a three-course dinner for just under $40, so try their roasted cauliflower, black pepper spaghetti, and whatever sorbet is in season.
8.3
Karne
The Deal: Three-course dinner for $55 per person
Why We Like It: Karne is one of Houston’s swankiest KBBQ joints—you’ll see about as many Gucci bags as you will pieces of grilled skirt steak—so a meal here is usually reserved for special occasions. But during Restaurant Weeks, you can get three courses for the price of one entree. Go for the hangar steak and finish with an ice cream sandwich filled with toasted rice ice cream, and make sure you add an order of corn cheese, which costs less than the price of valeting your car.
8.4
Bistro 555
The Deal: Two-course lunch for $25 per person, a three-course dinner for $39 per person, and an option for takeout
Why We Like It: HRW is the best time to walk into this charming little bistro on Memorial, where people on dates drink crisp French whites at small wooden tables. For lunch, dinner, or takeout, Bistro 555 is offering its summer classics, from a gazpacho with a dollop of creamy goat cheese fig bruschetta to its black tiger prawn brochettes on saffron risotto. And if you're looking to take a dish home, this French restaurant makes a great pizza . Order the la carbonara, topped with sharp parmesan and crisped pork belly, for the perfect way to end your night.
8.5
Blue Tuba
The Deal: Two-course brunch for $25 per person, three-course dinner for $39 per person
Why We Like It: No one does Euro-Tex food like Blue Tuba. For the next few weeks, come early for a German breakfast and apples foster french toast, or for dinner, order a Polish taco with smoked kielbasa, a giant slab of breaded pork schnitzel, and some bread pudding bathed in bourbon sauce.
7.8
Artisans
The Deal: Two-course lunch for $25 per person, and a three-course dinner for $55 per person
Why We Like It: Artisans serves some of the best French food in town. And considering most of the entrees hover near the $30 mark, getting to try baked seafood gratin, duck confit, and one of the most incredible desserts ever conceived—profiteroles stuffed with ice cream and smothered in chocolate sauce—for these prices makes wandering into Artisans' somewhat spooky building worth it.
8.7
Latin Bites
The Deal: Three-course dinner for $39 per person
Why We Like It: When we think of Peruvian food that everyone should try, Latin Bites comes to mind. The menu features everything from ceviche tostadas to deep-fried cheese empanadas, but order their most delicious dish—the tender lomo saltado with crispy french fries. Then, make plans to come back for your birthday, when the staff will put on a mini concert for you over dessert.
