Andre Johnson career stats: Where Hall of Fame Texans WR ranks in all-time catches, yards

Andre Johnson is making history for Houston.

He will become the first Houston Texans player to be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, on Saturday. Johnson, who was a receiver with the Texans in 12 of his 14 seasons, joins Dwight Freeney, Randy Gradishar, Devin Hester, Steve McMichael, Julius Peppers and Patrick Willis in this year's class.

Johnson was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and one of the most-reliable receivers in the NFL. Where does Johnson stack up against the all-time greats at the position?

Where did Andre Johnson go to college?

Johnson played three seasons at Miami from 2000-02. The Hurricanes were 35-2 during the three-year run. Johnson had a breakout season as a sophomore on Miami's national championship team. He had 37 catches for 682 yards and 10 TDs.

As a junior, Johnson had 52 catches for 1,092 yards – an incredible 21 yards per catch – with nine TDs. The Texans selected Johnson with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft.

Where does Andre Johnson rank all time in catches?

Johnson ranks 11th all time in NFL receptions with 1,062 receptions. He had 100-plus receptions in five seasons, and he led the NFL in catches in 2006 and 2008. That made him a go-to pick for fantasy league owners in PPR formats.

Only 14 receivers in NFL history had 1,000 or more receptions. A look at those players:

    PLAYER SEASONS CATCHES
    Jerry Rice* 20 1,549
    Larry Fitzgerald 17 1,432
    Tony Gonzalez* 17 1,325
    Jason Witten 18 1,228
    Marvin Harrison* 13 1,102
    Cris Carter* 16 1,101
    Tim Brown* 17 1,094
    Terrell Owens* 15 1,078
    Anquan Boldin 14 1,076
    Reggie Wayne 15 1,070
    Andre Johnson* 14 1,062
    Steve Smith Sr. 16 1,031
    Isaac Bruce* 16 1,024
    Hines Ward 14 1,000

Where does Andre Johnson rank all time in receiving yards?

Johnson ranks 11th all time in NFL receiving yards with 14,185 yards. He is one of 12 receivers with at least 14,000 yards for his career. A look at those receivers:

    PLAYER SEASONS YARDS
    Jerry Rice* 20 22,895
    Larry Fitzgerald 17 17,492
    Terrell Owens* 15 15,394
    Randy Moss* 15 15,292
    Isaac Bruce* 16 15,208
    Tony Gonzalez* 17 15,127
    Tim Brown* 17 14,934
    Steve Smith Sr. 16 14,731
    Marvin Harrison* 13 14,580
    Reggie Wayne 14 14,345
    Andre Johnson* 14 14,185
    James Lofton* 16 14,004

    * - Hall of Fame

Johnson also led the league in receiving yards in back-to-back seasons in 2008-09. He had 1,575 yards in 2008 and 1,569 in 2009. The only other receivers in the Super Bowl era to lead the NFL in receiving yards in back-to-back seasons are Jerry Rice (1989-90, 1993-95) and Calvin Johnson (2011-12).

Where does Andre Johnson rank all time in receiving TDs

Johnson was not a prolific TD machine. He had 70 career TDs, which ties him for 51st all time with A.J. Green, who played 13 seasons between Cincinnati and Arizona; and Gary Collins, who played with Cleveland from 1962-71.

Johnson's career high in TDs in a single, which he scored in 2009.

Did Andre Johnson win a Super Bowl?

Johnson never played in the Super Bowl. He played in four postseason games for the Texans, and he totaled 25 catches for 358 yards and a TD in those games.

Andre Johnson vs. Reggie Wayne: Which WR had better NFL stats?

Johnson and Wayne played one season together in college in 2000 before Wayne was selected with the No. 30 overall pick in the NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Both players played 14 seasons in the NFL, and Wayne has more receptions, yards and TDs. Wayne also had better quarterback play with Peyton Manning and teamed with Pro Football Hall of Fame receiver Marvin Harrison in Indianapolis.

Reggie Wayne vs. Andre Johnson: Career stats

    PLAYER SEASONS REC. YARDS TDS
    Reggie Wayne 14 1,070 14,345 82
    Andre Johnson 14 1,062 14,185 70

Still, Johnson is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame first. Wayne will have to wait at least another year before he is selected for enshrinement, and this makes for an interesting debate between Colts and Texans fans.

Wayne retired after the 2014 season – and Johnson played one season for the Colts in 2015. Those former Hurricanes missed a chance to reunite at the next level.
