Former NFL Star Has Bad News For Houston Texans Fans

The Houston Texans shocked the NFL world with their performance during the 2023 season. In the first year of head coach DeMeco Ryans, no one expected much from a group that had won 11 games the previous three seasons combined.

The Texans would go 10-7, winning the AFC South and hosting a playoff game. They destroyed the Cleveland Browns during Super Wild Card Weekend before being defeated by the Baltimore Ravens during the Divisional Round.

Houston hung tough with the Ravens, playing them to a tie in the first half. But, they ran out of steam in the second half, getting shutout and losing the game 34-10.

After such a terrific performance, the front office got to work upgrading the roster. The Texans have two emerging stars to build around on each side of the ball; quarterback C.J. Stroud and edge rusher Will Anderson Jr.

Both were selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, going No. 2 and No. 3 out of Ohio State and Alabama. Only entering Year 2 of their rookie deals, the time is now for the front office to spend and build up the team around them.

This offseason, that is exactly what they did. Star wide receiver Stefon Diggs was acquired in a trade from the Buffalo Bills , as was running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals. Defensively, the team had a huge splash in free agency, signing Danielle Hunter to bookend Anderson.

Houston is a franchise on the rise, heading in the right direction with their new regime. However, there are still some people skeptical of whether they can compete with the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC.

One of those skeptical people is former NFL running back turned analyst, LeSean McCoy. During a recent segment of Speak on FS1 , McCoy provided an opinion that will not sit well with Houston Texans fans.

“I think the Texans are a good team. They did a lot with a young team…  They can’t mess with the Chiefs.”

McCoy at least acknowledges that Houston is a good team, but provided the caveat that they aren’t on the level of the Chiefs. Based on how things have unfolded the last two seasons, is anyone on Kansas City’s level?

They have won two straight Super Bowls and been to the AFC Championship Game all six seasons Patrick Mahomes has been their starting quarterback. The Houston Texans’ loss against Baltimore in the AFC Championship Game showed they are on the right path, but there was still work to be done.
