Former NFL lineman breaks down preseason debut by young Texans offensive line

The Houston Texans played a strong first half of football against the Chicago Bears on Thursday night before the game was called early in the third quarter on account of lightning. Their work was particularly strong at the line of scrimmage early on, when Houston had at least a couple of projected offensive line starters getting some reps.

After the game was over, head coach DeMeco Ryans said both left guard Kenyon Green and center Juice Scruggs stood out to him in a good way. Here's more from former NFL lineman Brian Baldinger, who also liked what he saw from the left side of Houston's line.

The biggest key here is the performance of rookie tackle Blake Fisher, who may be asked to step up and take some important snaps if things don't work out for Tytus Howard at right tackle or if veteran left tackle Laremy Tunsil winds up getting injured. Fisher has experience at both positions and should be in line to be the team's swing tackle backing them up.

Other standouts from the Hall of Fame game for Houston included rookie safety Calen Bullock and wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson.
