Watch: Astros' Framber Valdez loses no-hit bid with two outs in ninth

Houston Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez was one out away from pitching the second no-hitter of his career.

But with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, he surrendered his first — and only — hit of the game when he served up a two-run home run to Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager.

That home run scored Josh Smith who had walked in the previous at-bat.

The good news for the Astros is that they still managed to win the game, 4-2, after Josh Hader came in to lock down a one-out save.

Valdez threw a no-hitter during the 2023 season against the Cleveland Guardians, and was trying to become the second Astros pitcher to throw one this season.

Ronel Blanco threw a no-hitter back in April against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Valdez's line for the night end up being 8.2 innings pitched, one hit, two earned runs, three walks and five strikeouts.
