1 dead, 1 detained in shooting at Howell business
Officers from the Howell Police Department responded to the 100 block of W Grand River Ave. for a complaint of threats made at a local business shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, officers found a man dead from a gunshot wound inside the building.
Man accused of killing MSU student in Howell scheduled for trial
HOWELL — The man accused of killing Michigan State University student Oghenevwede (Wede) Okagbare in Howell is scheduled for trial this summer. Reese Hammie, 23, was arraigned on charges of first-degree home invasion and domestic violence on Aug. 11, 2023, the same day Okagbare was killed. The home invasion and domestic violence charges were for a separate incident that occurred Aug. 1.
Body pulled from SE Michigan lake belongs to missing Genesee County man
TYRONE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The body of a missing Genesee County man was found Thursday in a private lake at the edge of Livingston County. The body of Austin Berger, a man in his early 30s, was found Thursday, June 27 in Marl Lake in Tyrone Township, just south of Fenton. Berger, who was identified by police as “vulnerable,” had been missing from Fenton since Sunday, June 23.
Green Oak Police Get Grant For Automatic License Plate Reader
The Green Oak Township Police Department has received an Automatic License Plate Reader grant that will aid authorities and close gaps in the county-wide system. The Police Department brought forth a proposal to purchase an Automatic License Plate Reader or ALPR, after being awarded a grant for $20,800 from the Department of Homeland Security. The township board approved a request at a recent meeting to approve the contract and related equipment, and to accept the grant.
