HOWELL — Police have identified the man found dead from a gunshot wound inside a downtown Howell business on Friday, June 28.

Officers from the Howell Police Department responded to Metro Studios Ink at 104 W. Grand River Ave. just before 5:30 p.m. Friday after receiving a threats complaint. Upon arrival, they found 46-year-old Sean Thompson of Howell, deceased.

In a release Saturday, HPD sought to correct conflicting pieces of information, and said Thompson was on-scene causing a disturbance before the shooting. They said there was a known history of disputes between business staff and Thompson.

Though some outlets reported Thompson had a knife, HPD said there's no current indication he was armed, though threats of violence were made, leading the suspect to fire one shot — which struck and killed Thompson.

The suspect, who remains unidentified, was arrested and lodged in the Livingston County Jail on Friday.

HPD emphasized the incident did not occur near Balloonfest and was in no way connected to the event.
