OCEOLA TWP. — A teen was left in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash at Highland Road and Oakcrest Road on Thursday, July 11.

Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:51 a.m. after a 19-year-old Howell man driving a 2008 Ford Focus east on Highland Road passed a vehicle and lost control when re-entering the right lane. According to Sheriff Mike Murphy, the teen was passing via the center lane.

The car slid into a 2021 Honda Pilot driven by a 43-year-old Howell woman. The Honda was stopped on Oakcrest Road waiting for an opening in traffic to enter Highland Road. When the cars collided, both slid into the drainage ditch.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Ford was transported to U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS in critical condition. The driver of the Honda was taken to St. Joseph Howell Hospital for possible injuries.

Family has identified the driver of the Ford as Cameron Koehler, and started a GoFundMe to raise $10,000 for his recovery treatment. According to the GoFundMe, Koehler suffered "two brain bleeds, multiple broken bones, and more."

Speed appears to be a factor in the crash. The road was closed for three hours for investigation and cleanup.

This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
