West Long Branch firefighter faked training certificates, officials say
WEST LONG BRANCH — A firefighter is charged with forgery after being accused of tampering with records in response to an Open Public Records Act request. Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said his office was investigating the validity of two training certificates for a firefighter with West Long Branch Fire Company No. 2 earlier in 2024. Investigators determined that Ronald Guidetti, 61, of Long Branch, created fake certificates to fulfill the OPRA request and then destroyed them, according to the prosecutor.

Mike Arnone, seven-term assemblyman, dies at 91
Dr. Michael J. Arnone, an affable dentist from Red Bank who served more than fourteen years as a Republican assemblyman from Monmouth County, died on July 1. He was 91. Arnone chaired the Assembly Local Government and Housing Committee. He played a role in rolling back Gov. Jim Florio’s $2.8 billion tax increase after the GOP took control of the legislature in 1991, advocated for consolidated municipal services for small towns, and pushed for a constitutional amendment to permit a two-tiered property tax rate in urban areas. He was a staunch supporter of Monmouth County’s horse racing industry. He was a sponsor of Megan’s Law.

Shore towns seek halt to wind turbine plan through lawsuit
As part of the ongoing opposition to the construction of Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Farms plan, eight shore towns in Ocean and north Atlantic counties are attempting to reverse the state’s project approvals through litigation. At the end of May, a group of eight towns, referred to in the lawsuit as the Shore Municipalities, including Long Beach Township, Beach Haven, Ship Bottom, Barnegat Light, Surf City, Harvey Cedars, Brigantine Beach and Ventnor City filed two appeals and a stay motion against the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) in an attempt to prevent 200 wind turbines to be placed less than nine miles offshore, adding that the DEP is “failing to protect the sensitive coastal waters of New Jersey by granting the final stages of approvals to Atlantic Shores.”
