HUBBARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Since Hubbard Township’s police department was on the verge of being disbanded six years ago, the department has made a big comeback.

Now the Hubbard Township police department has nearly $2 million in reserve. It’s so financially sound, the trustees have decided not to ask voters to renew a $1.75 million levy originally passed in 2001 — that generates $163,000 a year.

It’s not known how much the average property taxpayer will save.

“The trustees feel confident, the fiscal officer feels confident that we can make this happen and we can sustain operations where we’re at now. It’s like a tax holiday. You don’t hear it very often,” said Hubbard Township Trustee Rick Hernandez.

Hubbard residents will still see a $1.75 million police levy renewal first passed in 2019 that generates $182,000 a year on the November ballot.
