Police: Rutland man charged with raping a child
Shawn Baillargeon, 54, was arrested Tuesday. A 54-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Rutland on child rape charges, authorities announced. Shawn Baillargeon is charged with aggravated rape of a child, rape of a child, and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, according to the Rutland Police Department. He was taken to East Brookfield District Court for arraignment.

Man seriously injured after being hit by pickup truck in Worcester
A man was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries Tuesday night after they were hit by a pickup truck in Worcester. Worcester Police officers responded to reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle around Park Avenue and Pleasant Street at 5:44 PM. Arriving officers discovered a fifty-four-year-old man with serious head injuries. He was taken to the hospital. The operator of the Dodge Ram that stuck the man stayed at the scene, Worcester police say.

A pair of best friends who were killed in a car crash in Brookfield over the July 4 weekend are being remembered for their “inseparable bond.”. Patrick Mcleish, 31, and Thomas Groccia II, 35, died in the early morning on July 6 when the truck Mcleish was driving crashed into a tree off the side of the road near 12 East Main St., the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office said previously. First responders found both men still in the truck around 1 a.m.
Elderly Woman Loses $5000 in Moving Scam
A woman recently contacted the Better Business Bureau of Central New England saying she was moving from Arizona to Massachusetts when she was scammed out of almost five thousand dollars and lost all her furniture. It appears she was the victim of a moving scam. The 75 year old woman, who was no stranger to moving, was pressured into locking in a “low-ball” bid for her move. Among the red flags, the company seemed to operate under several different names, and she kept being told her move would be cancelled if she didn’t come up with more funds. The worst of it, the movers who loaded up the van with her belongings, are nowhere to be found. She moved into an empty apartment and her furniture is who knows where.

Broken glass forces closing of Crompton Park pool
WORCESTER — The city pool at Crompton Park will be closed until Saturday after pieces of glass were found in the water. Workers will need to drain the pool and search the floor for any glass. Refilling the pool and balancing chemicals will add to the timetable. A clear bottle had apparently been thrown over a fence during hours the pool was closed.
