The Western Reserve Community Band will cover a variety of musical themes for its 2024 Hudson Bandstand performance on Sunday, Aug. 11. Hudson resident and WRCB Conductor Ralph Meyer, who founded the band in 1997, says the audience is in for a musical treat.

The concert will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Hudson Gazebo.

Local composer and music educator John Pasternak has composed a special march and dedicated it to Hudson’s 225 Anniversary Celebration. John will conduct the Hudson Quasquibicentennial March to start the concert on Sunday night. Both Dr. Wendy Matthews and Beverly O’Connor will also conduct the band.

Other highlights include music specifically written for the Concert Band, including arrangements of Beatles medley’s such as A Tribute To George Harrison, The Beatles Remembered, Beatles Love, and All You Need Is Love. In addition, the band will include selection from the musical "The Wiz" to cover the music of the current Broadway revival. The Concert Band also will feature The National Game, Crown Point Celebration, Black Granite, New York 1927, Gallito, New York 1927, Skull And Crossbones, and National March Stars and Stripes Forever.

The concert is free. Rain Location is at the Hudson Middle School Auditorium.

The Western Reserve Community Band, founded in 1997, has grown to more than 80 members from 24 surrounding communities. Its mission is to provide FREE musical entertainment and cultural enrichment to communities throughout northeastern Ohio. The band is open to all adult instrumental musicians in Summit County and the surrounding area. Weekly rehearsals are at the East Woods Intermediate School Band Room on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.
