"I Will Fight You Under Any Rules": Elon Musk Outlines Why Zuckerberg Fight Didn't Happen

For the past few months, tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have been hinting at a potential cage match.

It all started in June of 2023, when Mark, 39, CEO of Meta, responded to a Tweet (now "X" post) from Elon, jokingly challenging him to a cage match, saying, "Send me location." This, in reference to a running meme in the MMA world.

But, things escalated quickly as Elon, 52, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and now owner of X, seemed not to back down from the idea of a fight. Sports betting websites came out with odds, putting Elon as a slight favourite, and the world began wondering if the two would actually hash their internet beef out IRL (in real life).

But, after much back and forth, it seemed as though the fight had fizzled out, with the two combatants unable to decide on a time, place, or if the other party was actually serious.

In a leaked conversation between the two, Mark shared,

"I don't want to keep hyping something that will never happen, so you should either decide you're going to do this and do it soon, or we should move on."

    To this, Elon replied,

"I will be in Palo Alto on Monday. Let's fight in your Octogan."

And, while much has been made of the immature nature of two tech billionaires with a combined net worth of over $330 billion wanting to duke it out in a cage, interest continued to soar.

Originally, UFC president, Dana White was eager to promote the event, but Elon put a kibosh to the idea after he was contacted by the Italian president, offering to host the event in the Roman Colosseum, with all proceeds going to charity.

Elon has been very open about the fact that he "doesn't need to train" for the fight, brandishing a considerable size advantage, despite Mark's recent passion for competitive martial arts training.

On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Elon outlined exactly why the fight hasn't happened. And, his intentions to fight Mark "any place, anywhere, under any rules."

Throughout the 3-hour sitdown, Elon shared his side of the story,

"He was posting all these fight videos and someone on Twitter said, 'Hey, you should fight Zuck.' And, I said, well, 'I'm willing to fight if he is.'

He went on to explain how "Zuck pulled out... he used the pull-out method." According to Elon, Mark was adamant about the fight being "UFC rules". And, although Elon agreed to the rule set, didn't want UFC branding on a historical location such as the Roman Colosseum.

"Then he accused to of not being serious, I said, 'Look, at the end of the day, I will fight you any place, anywhere, under any rules.'

Unfortunately, regardless of the eagerness of either party, the fight will need to be postponed, at least for now, as Mark recently suffered a torn ACL injury while sparring for an upcoming fight.
