MENOMONIE — A Hudson man was arrested Thursday morning in Dunn County on suspicion of his sixth drunk-driving offense, less than four months after he was released from prison for his fifth drunk-driving conviction. Paul M. Allen, 28, 1117 Summer St., also was cited for deviation from a designated lane.

The Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post made the arrest. A state trooper attempted to stop Allen at 1:54 a.m. for unsafe lane deviation at mile marker 45 on west-bound Interstate 94, just east of Menomonie.

“The vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued reaching speeds over 100 mph,” a press release states. “Tire deflation devices were effectively deployed near milepost 25 in St. Croix County. The suspect vehicle slowed and exited the interstate at exit 24 near Woodville, where the trooper was able to successfully perform a pursuit intervention technique maneuver which brought the pursuit to an end.”

Allen reportedly showed signs of impairment and he was taken into custody on possible charges of OWI-6, fleeing an officer and operating after revocation. Allen was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood draw, then he was incarcerated in the Dunn County Jail.

Online court records show that Allen was convicted of his fifth drunk-driving offense in 2022 in St. Croix County Court. In September 2022, he was sentenced to two years in state prison but was given credit for 169 days already served.

State Department of Corrections records show Allen was released from Oshkosh Correctional Institution on April 2.

A court date was set for Sept. 17 before Judge Christina Mayer on the citation.
