Opioid settlement fund fuels anti-addiction battle in Indiana
Indiana is stepping up its fight against addiction with a boost from an opioid settlement fund. The money comes from a $54 billion 2021 Opioid Settlement Fund created by manufacturers, distributors and retailers to address their role in the nation’s opioid epidemic. Governor DeWine signed new law requiring AEDs in every Ohio school
Worthington, Ohio – On a significant day for student safety, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed House Bill 47 into law at a ceremony held at Worthington Kilbourne High School. This new legislation mandates that every public and chartered nonpublic school in Ohio must be equipped with automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Governor DeWine emphasized the critical role of these devices in saving lives, stating, “The evidence is clear: AEDs save lives.” He highlighted that sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death among student-athletes in the U.S. and noted that immediate use of an AED can make a life-saving difference.

West Ohio Christian Chamber of Commerce raises money and spreads awareness at Outdoor Market
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The West Ohio Christian Chamber of Commerce hosted an outdoor market on Saturday. The market was a good opportunity for businesses and organizations in the chamber to introduce themselves to the public. Visitors could also get free popcorn, snow cones, and laundry detergent. Money raised from events like this helps with scholarship programs for Christian colleges, business training for their members, and chamber operating costs. The Christian Chamber also hopes that people who came out learned more about how they help area businesses bond and work together over faith.
Local kids go back to school with a new backpack
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) -- Back-to-school season is here. That’s why 1200 local area kids got a backpack filled with school supplies to start the year on the right foot. The local nonprofit Blessings in a Backpack spent the summer raising money and securing items to distribute backpacks in time for the school year.
