Police have launched an investigation after a woman was found shot inside a Mercedes Tuesday evening near the 105 Freeway in South Los Angeles.Deputies responded to the area near Vermont Avenue and 115th Street near the 105 Freeway around 7:45 p.m.The video featured in the media player above is the ABC7 Los Angeles 24/7 streaming channelWhen they arrived, they found the woman inside the white Mercedes with several gunshot wounds. She was rushed to the hospital in an unknown condition. AIR7 was above the scene as the investigation was unfolding and captured the vehicle's front passenger window riddled with bullet holes.The front driver's side window was also shattered to pieces.Information regarding a suspect or suspects has not been released. It's also unclear if the shooting took place while she was on the freeway or on surface streets.Meanwhile, Vermont Avenue is closed to traffic. Police fatally shot a man who was lighting fireworks in his backyard in Downey on Saturday. They were called to the 7100 block of Stewart and Gray Road, near Pernell Avenue, at around 6:15 p.m. for reports of a disturbance in the area, according to a statement from the Downey Police Department. "Officers arrived on scene and during their investigation, an officer-involved shooting occurred," the statement said. "A male subject was shot and died from his injuries."Witnesses claim that the incident began when a neighbor, who allegedly has mental health issues, was lighting fireworks in his backyard and got into an argument with another neighbor. Exact circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. The California Department of Justice will be investigating the incident as the man was unarmed when he was killed. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has already made more than 10 illegal fireworks busts over the past week, with more expected before the end of the Fourth of July holiday.Eyewitness News was present in Lakewood Monday for one of the stings, which resulted in the arrest of a man and woman who allegedly tried to sell fireworks to an undercover officer."Do not sell these fireworks," L.A. County sheriff's Capt. Daniel Holguin said. "Don't get involved in illegal fireworks. They're dangerous, they're bad for the community and if you try to sell them, you're probably going to get caught."Holguin said the pair arrested Monday are each facing $2,000 fines.And don't think fireworks are fun and harmless.It was just three years ago that the Los Angeles Police Department explosives team triggered a massive explosion as they tried to dispose of illegal fireworks.
