Northport’s Mikey Brannigan captured a bronze medal  at the 1500 meters T20 race Friday at the Paralymics in Paris.

He held the lead for much of the race until Britain’s Ben Sandilands passed him at the start of the last lap, at a record-setting pace. Portugal’s Sandro Baessa finished second.

In 2016, he won the 1500 meter gold medal at the Rio Paralympic Games, and won the 1500m silver medal at the 2023 Para Athletics World Championships in Paris,

He also has competed in 1000-meter and mile races.

He competed for Northport High School, where he was an All American.

Runners World magazine said he was the first person on the autism spectrum to break the 4-minute mile.
