Structure fire in Carbondale under investigation
CARBONDALE, IL (KBSI) – On Jun. 26 at 11:27 p.m. a structure fire broke out in the area of North Marion and East Fisher Streets in Carbondale, IL. There are no injuries but the cause of the structure fire is under investigation. The flames were under control by 12:00 a.m. on Jun. 27.
Days-old infant, toddlers found near narcotics during traffic stop
HERRIN, Ill. (WJPF) – Police say three children, including a 13-day-old infant, were passengers in the same car in which narcotics were found. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says Kortrell Johnson, 26, was initially pulled over June 20 for a traffic violation. Three kids, ages 3 years, 2 years, and 13 days were found in the backseat. One of the children, police say, was sitting just inches away from two hypodermic syringes, concealed inside of a diaper. Unsealsed bags of cannabis, a single bag of 5 alprazolam (Xanax) pills, and a white powder that tested positive for meth were also found in the same car as the kids and police say a strong smell of cannabis was coming from the car.
