HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — A house fire in Hutchinson on Saturday afternoon prompted a response from firefighters.

A news release from the Hutchinson Fire Department said crews responded to the 400 block of Urban St. around 2 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw the single-story home with smoke rolling out of the attic vents.

Crews went into the home and were met with heavy smoke and heat. Due to heat and visibility, they had to back out of the structure and readjust their firefighting tactics.

The fire was found in the center of the home, and had extended to the attic and crawl space. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The HFD said weather conditions, including wind and high temperature, hampered the fire extinguishment.

The occupants of the home were not there at the time of the fire. Investigators are still working the scene.
