Hutchinson man arrested following police chase

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (KSNW) — A man from Hutchinson was arrested following a police chase on Monday afternoon.

According to the Hutchinson Police Department, at 3:20 p.m., Department of Corrections Enforcement, Apprehension, and Investigation Task Force agents found somebody wanted, a 36-year-old man from Hutchinson, near North Severance Street and East 11th Avenue.

Before they could contact the man, he left in his vehicle, fleeing from HPD officers. Due to the man’s history of fleeing law enforcement agencies, officers did not pursue him.

The man was later found walking on Milcon Street between West 11th Avenue and West 13th Avenue. He was armed with a handgun and ran from officers.

The KHP later located him again after he got in his vehicle and fled the area, leading to another pursuit.

The HPD says at 3:48 p.m., the man ran a stop sign at East 4th Avenue and North Maple Street and hit another car. He then ran and, while doing so, fired a shot from his handgun. The HFD believes the round was not fired at the officers pursuing him.

A short time later, the man was taken into custody.

The driver of the vehicle hit by the man suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The man was arrested on suspicion of felony flee and elude, felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated battery, felony interference with law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, criminal discharge of a firearm, and three felony warrants.

The KHP is leading the investigation into the crash. The HPD is leading the criminal investigation.
