Oblong Announces Closing of “Parklane Drive” During Fair
(Oblong) – The Crawford County Fair begins this weekend and Oblong, Mayor, Teresa Fielder, is reminding residents of a road closing. Fielder says beginning Sunday through the rest of the week the roads on “Parklane Drive” will be blocked to traffic daily from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. She says this will include the area just east of the Oblong Public Works maintenance building, continuing east to the entrance of the Oblong Campground including the area on the north side of the fair office. Fielder reminds those making drop-offs into the 4-H barn after 4 p.m. to use the alley next to the American Legion Building or the alley between the “rabbit and dairy barn.”

Oblong is Organizing a “Going Solar Q and A”
(Oblong) – The Village of Oblong has organized an event for those interested in learning more about solar energy. According to Oblong Mayor, Teresa Fielder, as a result of the many phone calls, texts, and concerns about solicitors in our area pushing the switch to solar, Oblong Chief of Police, Colton Williamson, has reached out to “Prolux Energy” and invited them to hold a question and answer event for all area residents. The Q and A will be held at the Oblong Municipal Building this Friday, in the Activity Room from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Fielder says this will be an “open house” style event and you can come anytime to receive information and have your questions answered.
Oblong Chamber Organizing Town Wide Garage Sales
(Oblong) – The Oblong Chamber of Commerce is gathering addresses for the Village’s Town Wide Garage Sales. If you or your family would like to have your address listed on the garage sale map, you are asked to send a private message to the Oblong Chamber of Commerce via their Facebook page or call 618-480-1062. They say the listing does not need to be within the Village limits to appear on the map. Rural Oblong addresses may be added as well. Town Wide Garage Sales are scheduled for Saturday, August 10th. Maps will be posted on FB the week of August 10 and copies will be available at local businesses.
Sullivan County Humane Society’s Wine and Whiskers benefit

Oblong Unit 4 Board Meets Tonight
(Oblong) – The Oblong Unit 4 Board meets tonight. In “Old Business,” the board will hear committee reports and a report from the Academic Foundation. In “New Business,” the board is set to approve bids for fuel, milk, and bakery products, discuss and approve policy updates, the lease agreement for the Drivers Ed car, and several “handbooks.” In other business, the Unit 4 Board will approve the Junior High Cheerleaders hosting a cheer camp, Jr. High Cross Country, and a “Memorandum of Understanding” with the Oblong Education Association. The Oblong Unit 4 Board meets this evening at 6 p.m. in the Oblong Room of the Grade School.
