Mentor Public Library hosts talk on Mansfield reformatory
Discover the history of the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield during a free program at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at Mentor Public Library’s Main Branch, 8215 Mentor Ave. The reformatory was once the largest of its kind in the United States and held the most dangerous criminals in the country, according to a news release. Promise Kept: Clear Fork grad completes half-marathon on Mount Everest
MANSFIELD — Missy Blake conquered Everest, but it won’t be her last great adventure. She still has other promises to keep. A 1994 Clear Fork graduate, Blake became the first veteran amputee to run the Everest Half Marathon on May 29. She completed the 21-kilometer course from Dingboche to Namche Bazaar in 9 hours, 44 minutes and 1 second.
Waterspouts spotted on Lake Erie in Ohio, special marine warning
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WKRC) - Beachgoers in Ohio saw several waterspouts near the coast of Lake Erie on Sunday morning. Stacy Hancock in Mentor, Ohio recorded footage of the waterspouts and reported seeing "several" waterspouts form on Lake Erie between 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed the sightings.
